Can you ride an electric scooter like a regular scooter?

Can you ride an electric scooter like a regular scooter?

Yes, you can ride an electric scooter just like a regular scooter.

However: because electric scooters have hub motors they don’t ride as smooth as a regular scooter.

You will feel resistance and it is not enjoyable. Most electric scooters have 9 or 10-inch tires so you are higher up compared to a regular scooter and because some electric scooters weigh 50+ pounds they are also a lot heavier to ride without the electrical assistance.

So if you ever run out of juice with your electrical scooter, then don’t worry you can ride it home like a regular scooter but you will have to put in a bit more (in some cases a lot more) effort to do so.

We would recommend you walk next to it, it will be a lot more comfortable versus riding it like a regular scooter

Are electric scooters hard to ride?

No electric scooters are not hard to ride, be it that you know how to ride a bike or a regular scooter.

If you have never driven a bike or scooter before, you might want to take it very easy the first couple of times you ride it.

If it’s your first electric scooter it’s best to practice in your neighborhood away from pedestrians or cars. If you can’t avoid that where you live then go to a parking lot or a similar open spot to practice.

Practice 1 to 2 hours a day to get the hang of the throttle response, the fast acceleration and the speed. Also balancing is important but that’s covered further down this article.

When in doubt (pedestrians, wet conditions, a hole in the road, potentially too high of a curb, etc), slow down, or get off and walk next to the scooter and continue on the scooter when you are completely sure that you’re good to go.

How do you ride an electric scooter?

First of all, you start with the correct safety gear, this is the most important step. Then you put up your kickstand, you put one foot on the deck of your electric scooter and the other on the ground.

You then “turn on” your electric scooter. Some scooters have a button you need to hold or push, some have a keylock.

Next, you gently twist the throttle (just like a motorcycle if you’ve ever driven one), and off you go, it’s that simple.

Here’s a quick video explaining how you ride an electric scooter:

Do you need balance to ride an electric scooter?

Yes, you need balance to ride an electric scooter, but if you are used to riding a bike or any other 2-wheeled vehicle, then you have the balance to ride an electric scooter.

Once the scooter starts moving, keeping your balance becomes very easy and starts to feel natural.

Your feet are fairly low to the ground so there is almost no danger for you to lose your balance and fall.

Always wear protective gear when riding an electric scooter because if you fall at a higher speed, the risk of serious injury increases as well.

Conclusion:

To sum up, you can ride an electric scooter just like a regular scooter, with the added weight and hub motors it isn’t a fun task, but it can be done with all models of electric scooters.

Electric scooters are not hard to ride if you have driven a bike or other 2-wheeled vehicle before, the same goes for needing balance to ride an electric scooter.
