How Fast Do Electric Bikes Go? Top Speed Of Every Motor Type Ebike Explained!
Are you looking for your first e-bike or maybe an upgrade for your existing one, and you want to know how fast each motor type is? Well, you’ve come to the right place. I was recently also hunting for a replacement for my ebike, and I also wanted to make the right purchase, and on my wish list, one of the bullet points was SPEED.
So I went on a wild goose chase to uncover how fast electric bikes go, and which motor produced which speed. So below you can find the fruits of my labor because I went through hundreds of articles, listings, and videos to find out how fast electric bikes go, so you don’t have to 😀
Almost all 250w e-bikes have a top speed of 18mph – 29 km/h. The average speed on a flat surface with a person that has an “average” weight of 180Ib – 80 kg is between 14 and 18 mph – 22.5 and 29 km/h. This depends on the brand, weather, road conditions, and weight of the rider.
So how fast is 250W in mph in e-bikes? 18 mph – 29 km/h.
How fast is a 500W ebike?
For e-bikes with a 500W motor, the top speed is 20 mph – 32 km/h. As you can clearly see, it doesn’t mean if the motor of an ebike has double the power (500W vs 250W) it has double the speed. A 500W ebike goes 2mph – 3.2 km/h faster than a 250W ebike.
So how fast is 500W in mph in e-bikes? 20 mph – 32 km/h.
A regular person riding on good-condition roads will get an average speed of 18mph – 29 km/h.
How fast is a 750W ebike?
For e-bikes with a 750W motor, the top speed is 28 mph – 45 km/h. Most 750W e-bikes go up to 25mph – 40 km/h with the fastest models going 3 mph faster.
So how fast is 750W in mph in e-bikes? 28mph or 45km/h.
How fast is a 1000W ebike?
For e-bikes with a 1000W motor, the top speed of the fastest models is 35 mph – 55 km/h.
How fast is a 2500W ebike?
For e-bikes with a 2500W motor, the top speed is 38 mph – 61 km/h. Now this is the highest speed I found a 2500W ebike can go, but it’s important to note that most manufacturers restrict the top speed of their 2500W ebike models to 28 mph – 45 km/h, mostly due to safety reasons and regulations in various countries all around the world.
So how fast is 2500W in mph in e-bikes? 38 mph – 61 km/h.
How fast is a 5000W ebike?
For e-bikes with a 5000W motor, the top speed is 50 mph – 80 km/h.
5000W e-bikes are among the top performers in their category. Most 5000W Ebikes are limited to 28 mph – 45 km/h, again mostly due to safety reasons and regulations in various countries all around the world, but theoretically most models can reach top speeds of 50 mph – 80 km/h.
So how fast is 5000W in mph in e-bikes? 50 mph – 80 km/h.
How fast is an 8000W ebike?
For e-bikes with an 8000W motor, the top speed is 69 mph – 110 km/h.
It’s mostly endurance e-bikes that have such a high-wattage motor. 69 mph – 110 km/h on any bike is very fast and can result in serious injury or worse when you have an accident or happen to fall.
So how fast is 8000W in mph in e-bikes? 69 mph – 110 km/h.
Conclusion Of How Fast Do Electric Bikes Go?
So to conclude the fastest that factory e-bikes can go is 69 mph – 110 km/h for the 8000W models. But most electric bikes that are sold today are between 250W and 750W and those top speeds are between 18mph – 29 km/h and 28 mph – 45 km/h.
