The best electric scooter for a 10-year-old

It’s not easy to pick an electric scooter for a 10-year-old. They are usually too big for entry-level kid’s E-scooters and too small/young for the standard (fast) electric scooters.

So is there an electric scooter a 10-year-old can enjoy while getting his/her feet wet in the wonderful world of electric scooters? Yes, there is and it’s the Segway Ninebot E10. Below you will find our detailed review of this fantastic electric scooter that provides a smooth and above all safe ride for your 10-year-old.

Our Rating:

Ninebot E10 Review

The Segway Ninebot E10 motorized electric scooter is the bigger brother of the E8 and the C8. This electric scooter is made with kids in mind ages 10 to 12. Its slim, sleek design provides an attractive look and it has a lot of smart features targeted specifically to kids.

Wear resistant Tires Ninebot E10

The Segway Ninebot ZING E10 is one of those electric scooters that is built with kids in mind. Segway has really thought their ZING kids electric scooter series through.

The Ninebot ZING E10 has for example a triple braking system for safety. The three brakes are a rear fender brake, a regenerative brake, and a regular hand brake. The hand brake is an EBS (Electronic Braking System) offering a lot of safety when braking, and it can be operated with a single finger, again a feature built with kids in mind.

Furthermore, the Segway Ninebot ZING E10 is equipped with a silicone anti-skid foot pad on the deck, thermoplastic handle grips (helps with cold hands in the cold season, easy to clean, and more grip), 3M reflective stickers, wear-resistant solid rubber tires (no punctures and better grip) and an easy to use thumb throttle. And it also has cool ambient lighting under the deck, which you can set to Green, Orange, Yellow, Pink, and Blue. This will turn a lot of envious heads when riding after sunset and adds a big safety factor.

So you can see Segway put a lot of time and effort into building out their Kids Electric Scooter ZING C and E Series.

The Segway Ninebot E10 requires an initial charging time of 12 hours. After fully charging the scooter it will provide 40 minutes of driving fun at maximum speed. The weight of your child, the riding conditions, and the temperature are key factors that will affect the speed and capacity of an electric scooter, but during our test, the Segway Ninebot E10 lasted 38 minutes during constant (ab)use by my son.

Motor:

The Segway Ninebot E10 Motorized Electric Scooter has a 150w motor with high torque. This provides a speed of up to 10mph (16km/h). The E10 provides a safe ride at moderate speed.

Battery:

The Ninebot E10 Motorized Electric Scooter has a rechargeable 2550 mAh battery. The charging time is around 4 hours for optimal results.

Brakes:

A hand-operated front brake makes it easy for your child to control the scooter and come to a safe stop. The brake handle is very easy to operate and doesn’t require a lot of force from a child’s hand.

Display:

The Segway Ninebot E10 doesn’t have a display. It does have a GBR LED light battery indicator and a LED “MODE” indicator. Read below what these modes are.

Driving Modes:

The E10 has 3 driving modes: SAFE mode, CRUISE mode, and TURBO mode. These 3 modes have their own speed limitations SAFE is 6,2mph – 10 km/h CRUISE is 8mph – 13 km/h and TURBO is 10mph – 16 km/h

Standard features:

A hand-operated front brake and 3M reflective stickers as well as a light under the deck are nice features for a safe ride.

Suspension:

The Ninebot E10 Scooter has a front spring damper suspension.

Tires:

This scooter has tubeless synthetic anti-wear tires. Tubeless tires are a little harder than air-filled tires but you can’t get a puncture, so you will never have to replace a flat tire.

Weight and maximum load:

The Segway Ninebot E10 Scooter weighs 18.7 lbs (8.5 kg). Due to its lightweight, it’s easy for kids to haul around. It can carry a load of 44 to 132 lbs (20kg to 60kg). Segway recommended the E10 for children aged 8 and older, but I would advise this E10 for ages 10 and up. If you have an 8-year-old you’re better of with the C8.

Features of the Segway Ninebot E10 Electric Scooter:

  • Powerful battery and motor
  • Lots of kids-specific (safety) features.
  • 3 driving modes for every skill level.
  • A hand-operated front brake.
  • Weight 18,7 pounds.
  • Can carry a rider of up to 120 pounds 60 kg.

PROS and CONS of the E10

Conclusion:

The Ninebot E10 is a great electric scooter for kids between the age of 10 to 12/13 to get their first experience in the world of electric scooters. The easy throttle control and moderate speed/driving modes make for a comfortable and safe ride. Your kid will love this E10, my son is still (ab)using it daily around the neighborhood and still loves it to this day. And if your child is younger at 8 or 9 years old or smaller in size I would recommend looking at the Ninebot C8 <— Click here for OUR REVIEW
