First, let’s review the GOTRAX GXL V2 and then we’ll share the test results.

GOTRAX GXL V2 Review

Specs and Facts

GOTRAX GXL V2

Our Rating:

4.4/5

It’s a very popular electric scooter and thanks to its light frame and portable design, the GOTRAX GXL V2 is the perfect electric scooter for commuting.

Partly because it has 8.5 inch pneumatic tires, it drives very gently and comfortably across all city streets, making him ideal for concurring the city jungle on the way to work.

A feature that makes it (in my opinion) the best electric scooter for commuting is the air-filled tires, these tires are a joy to ride on when the pavements stop being smooth. On your commute, you will no doubt encounter less than perfectly flat streets and this is where these air-filled tires shine.

Best Electric scooter for commuting

Most manufacturers in the “affordable” price range of up to $500 use solid rubber tires, and I have experienced first hand that they deliver a harsh ride on less than perfect roads.

It’s not fun at all to commute on an electric scooter with solid tires that don’t have some form of suspension. So that is one really awesome feature that makes the GOTRAX GXL V2 stand out from the crowd and makes it an ideal electric scooter to commute.

When folded the GOTRAX GXL V2 is just 15”x44”x6” making it a perfect fit for commuting. You can easily take it with you on the train or bus, and once at work, you can store it under your desk or wherever you have a little space.

And for all the ladies reading this, it’s also available in pink. You’ll be sure to turn some heads with this pink beauty on your commute.

The cruise control makes for an enjoyable ride. To enable cruise control, hold a steady speed for a few seconds and then remove your hand from the throttle and it will maintain that speed. To disengage, open the throttle and it will immediately turn off. Many buyers don’t know about this feature, but now you know.

Motor

The GOTRAX GXL V2 has a 250w motor with a top speed of 15.5mph (25km/h)

This is powerful enough for a scooter in this range, and will take on any road you encounter on your commute.

Battery

The 36V battery is more than enough to provide a 12-mile range (20km)

Charging time is a respectable 4 hours.

Safety features

The GOTRAX GXL V2 features a regenerative brake at the front and a disc brake in the rear providing enough stopping power to stop fast and safely.

The rear disc brake works through a hand lever making it a lot easier and safer than the foot handbrake on the V1.

Disc brakes are usually not found in this price range, so it’s nice to see Gotrax going the extra mile to deliver an outstanding electric scooter for a low price that is available for everyone.

Standard Features

TheGOTRAX GXL V2 comes standard with pneumatic tires which make it a joy to ride on. On a budget scooter like this one that has no suspension, this is an awesome feature to have, and delivers a very smooth ride, making it the best electric scooter under $300 for commuting.

Display

The display offers information on speed and battery status. It has excellent visibility in direct sunlight and at night.

Suspension

The GOTRAX GXL V2 has no suspension, as expected in this price range. The tires make up for it though.

Tires

This scooter has pneumatic tires making it perfect for commuting thanks to the smooth ride. The tires on the GOTRAX GXL V2 are road tires.

Weight and maximum load

The GOTRAX GXL V2 is very portable with a weight of only 26lbs (12kg)

The maximum load this scooter can take is 220lbs (100kg)

Conclusion

The GOTRAX GXL V2 is the best electric scooter for commuting. It’s light, easy to fold and carry with you, and offers a very smooth and safe ride thanks to its pneumatic tires and lever-operated rear disc brake.

The narrow handlebars make it perfect for city commuting.

With a price point below $250 this as a real bargain, and the best bang for your buck electric scooter.

The GOTRAX GXL V2 Review – Is it any good?

Yes, it’s a very good electric scooter for fun rides or for a commute below 7 miles. After that, it will become a bit uncomfortable.

Our test results are very optimistic and we really enjoyed the GOTRAX GXL V2. (I still use one regularly).

The overall ride was good. The rear brake does a good job of stopping it, better than the front brake.

There were no rattles or weird noises during our tests.

The air tires are awesome and do a good job. Especially because the GOTRAX GXL V2 has no suspension.

The acceleration is good but isn’t that powerful when you’re weighing near the 220lbs limit. If you want an electric scooter that delivers some serious punch in acceleration, check out this one.

Before you ride the GOTRAX GXL V2 be sure to put the safety pin back in after unfolding it to make sure that the scooter doesn’t fold during riding when you accidentally hit a pothole.

PRO TIP: The cruise control automatically activates after about 10 seconds riding at the same speed.

The GOTRAX GXL V2 has 2 gears, gear 1 goes up to 10 mph (16kmh) and gear 2 will go to the maximum speed of 15.5mph (25kmh). The gears can be selected before or while riding.

The biggest downside we found during our review is that it handles hills and inclines pretty bad. The GOTRAX GXL V2 struggled with every hill it encountered.

Is this a deal-breaker? We think not because when we pushed a couple of times we made it up and even without doing anything the scooter made it to the top but at a pretty slow pace.

The LED headlight is pretty bright, At night it illuminates the road sufficiently.

F.A.Q:

– How do I start my Gotrax scooter?

The GOTRAX GXL V2 doesn’t start by just pushing the throttle, instead, you have to give it just a slight push so that it moves just a little bit and then hit the throttle and it will take off.

– Is the Gotrax GLX waterproof?

The GoTrax GLX is IP54 waterproof. This means you can drive through some puddles but not in the rain.

– How long does it take to charge the Gotrax GLX scooter?

Around 3 hours to have a fully charged battery.

– Does GoTrax Have an app?

Yes they do. It’s called GoTrax and it’s available in the Apple app store and the Google Play store.

– What’s the range on a GOTRAX GXL V2?

During our test, we came out at about 12 miles (19km) of range before the battery died, so that’s on par with what GOTRAX advertises. That was on flat roads in the city. On our second range test we took it up several hills and inclines and the battery died after 9.48 miles (15,16km) so keep in mind that if you encounter a lot of hills on your commute, that will drain the battery a lot more and you won’t get the advertised range of 12 miles (19km)

Our rider that was testing the GOTRAX GXL V2 weighed 194lbs

– How do I charge my GoTrax?

There is a small female connector just below the handlebars to plug in your charger. How do I charge my GoTrax scooter?
